SUMMARY
The concert is 50 minutes in
length and may be performed by a trio (violin, piano and
double bass) or a symphony orchestra. Two actors and a dancer interpret
an original story which unfolds in a wizard´s
workshop, complete with candles, books, a magic treasure
chest, and a giant map. On stage is
also a shadow theater which measures 15 feet wide by 7.5 feet high.
The
wizard requires his apprentice to accomplish 7 tasks in order to
become a wizard. Each task is accompanied by a selection
of classical music written for full orchestra. The wizard
explains to the apprentice where he must go and what he must do. This
includes explanations about the musical selections. During
each piece the apprentice, the wizard and the dancer, utilizing
the shadow theater, spend one night in the mountains, in the opera
house, in a mysterious cave, in Hades, with a dying woman, in a
funeral procession, and finally dancing with death in a graveyard.
